Shelby is seen here checking out one of the small dogs in a cage.  She was very gentle.  Came up to me immediately and loved on me but has probably been abused by a man - very scared of a raised hand.  She did fine when tested with the cat - she allowed the cat to rub against her walk underneath her.  She was to be spayed shortly after these photos were taken.  Earlier in the day she had helped to save another dog's life but giving a blood transfusion.

her previous owners said she was 5 year old but we do not think she is any older than 3 - more like 2-2.5yo.

She would probably do best as an only dog or with a submissive male about the size she is.  She is well behaved in the house

Update 18th January 2008 - and new photos and update from her foster mother

A little more about Shelby…
She is a little frightened of thunder storms; I gave her Melatonin last storm and it did seem to help some. She is very calm and well behaved on a leash although does not respond to "heel." She usually walks with her head at my knee so some "heel" work would probably not be too difficult. She will walk ahead but never lunges or tugs on the lead except when I am taking her in for supper (she knows the routine!). She likes her rope bone most and enjoys playing tug-of-war or fetch. She is very careful with her teeth, never snaps, and takes food from my fingers very gently. . We have not had an "accident" in the house since her first night so I would certainly call her house trained;   I really would recommend a fenced yard because she is like a white tornado when off her leash. She doesn't run, she gallops, and can cover a lot of distant in a very short time; she has, as yet, made no attempt to jump or climb over the fencing (it's four feet high). . She really likes the sofa at night (I've probably started a bad habit!!);. I've brushed her out but she is not shedding much at this point; she just doesn't like to have her tail brushed. Shelby really is a wonderful girl and would integrate easily into a family situation without other animals. I think she would be okay with children over about age 4-5 as long as they are comfortable around big dogs; she is just a big dog and when she romps, she could knock a little one down. She is very people oriented;  She has a great personality and getting more beautiful every day!
