Facts you should know about the Golden Retriever...

Golden Retrievers are medium-large sized dogs and can reach between 65lbs & 85 lbs at full growth; they require at least 30 minutes of exercise daily and lots of love and attention.

They should be fed quality dog food, preferably an all-natural diet, to keep them in good condition and lessen possible allergies.

Their coat is long and sheds year-round. While this can worsen allergies in humans, the impact of their shedding can be reduced with frequent brushing and grooming.

They usually have very gentle mouths, but they do enjoy chewing and should be provided with appropriate, approved items for chewing.

Golden Retrievers live to satisfy their family. HGRR strongly recommends obedience training to ensure maximum bonding and mutual satisfaction of the Golden and its owners.

Above all, Golden Retrievers have a very loving disposition and thrive on personal attention.

GOLDEN RETRIEVERS PLACED BY HGRR ARE NOT SUITED FOR AN OUTSIDE-ONLY LIFE; they require and deserve their own place in your home.

Heartland DOES NOT ENDORSE underground/hidden fences. A fenced yard for safety and exercise purposes is preferred but not essential.   Goldens adopted from Heartland must be exercised on leash and not allowed to run free.

....and Heartland's Adoption Policies

To ensure that prospective owners are serious about their adoption, a $25.00 adoption application fee is charged. This fee will be applied against the adoption fee if the application is approved, returned if the application is denied, or if HGRR fails to find a dog that meets the applicant's requirements within two months. Applicants who withdraw their application prior to the end of the one-month search period forfeit their deposit.

The adoption fee is $175 for dogs from puppies to age 6years and $150 for dogs aged 7-8; this fee helps cover the cost of medical treatment (examinations, spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm check, and micro-chipping) given before the Golden is adopted.

Dogs that we consider Golden mixes may be adopted for $125.

A donation is requested for HGRR's senior Goldens (age 9 and up) and for HGRR's Goldens with special medical needs. Click here to visit our special page for Seniors and Special Needs Goldens.

There is a 14-day trial period for all adoptions. If the Golden is returned within this time, the adoption fee (less the application fee) will be refunded.

HGRR attempts to place their Goldens in the best possible home environment, and to that end several interviews will be held between the prospective owners and HGRR volunteers.

PLEASE NOTE: A submitted application does not guarantee adoption of a Golden from HGRR; nor that the dog an applicant would like to adopt from HGRR, is the one that is best suited to meet their needs, and HGRR reserves the right to offer one they feel is better suited to match the application.
